Air India Plane Crash in Ahmedabad—Live Updates:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Ahmedabad today to assess the aftermath of the deadly Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crash, which occurred on Thursday. The tragic accident claimed the lives of 241 people onboard. PM Modi visited the crash site near Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport and later met the injured who are currently receiving treatment at Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad.
According to PTI, the bodies of six victims have been handed over to their families following DNA testing for identification. The aircraft’s black box was recovered late Thursday evening, which may provide crucial insights into what led to the crash of the London Gatwick-bound flight.
Compensation Details:
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, after meeting the lone survivor, stated that DNA verification is ongoing for all 241 victims.
The Tata Group, which owns Air India, has announced Rs 1 crore compensation to the next of kin of each victim.
As per the Montreal Convention, Air India is liable to pay around Rs 1.5 crore per passenger.
With the aircraft fully insured, the total payout to the families is expected to be around Rs 360 crore.
The airport has now resumed partial operations.

Among those who tragically died was former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani (68), who was en route to London to visit his daughter.
Tragically, the crash also caused 24 deaths on the ground, including four medical students, when the aircraft struck the hostel building of B J Medical College in the Meghaninagar area.
