S. Jaishankar Meets Former UK PM Rishi Sunak in Delhi to Strengthen India-UK Relations

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in Delhi on Monday, expressing appreciation for Sunak's continuous support in strengthening India-UK relations. In a post on X, Jaishankar shared his positive remarks: “Nice to meet former UK PM Rishi Sunak in Delhi today. Appreciate his constant support for strengthening India-UK relations.”

Earlier, Rishi Sunak and his family had visited the Fatehpur Sikri monument in Agra, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. Sunak was accompanied by his wife, Akshata Murty, his mother-in-law, Sudha Murty, and their two daughters, Anoushka and Krishna. The family received a warm reception, with Sunak waving at the crowd gathered to catch a glimpse of them.

On Saturday, Sunak had also visited the Taj Mahal in Agra with his family. They toured the iconic monument, and Sunak wrote in the visitor’s book, “A truly breathtaking visit. Few places in the world can unite like the Taj Mahal. Our children will never forget seeing this… We are so grateful to the warm hospitality. An unforgettable experience for our whole family. Thank you.” His wife, Akshata Murty, also expressed her gratitude, writing, “A memory for the ages.”

During his trip to India, former PM Sunak had previously attended the fifth and final T20I match between India and England at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on February 2, alongside his father-in-law Narayan Murthy. He posted on X, commenting on the match and congratulating Team India on their win, despite the result. He also expressed his honor in meeting Jos Buttler and Suryakumar Yadav before the match.

External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar met Italy's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Tripodi in Delhi on Monday to discuss the strategic partnership between India and Italy. The two leaders focused on enhancing bilateral ties and the ongoing efforts to build on them. Jaishankar shared his thoughts on X, posting, "Received Deputy FM @tripodimaria of Italy in Delhi this afternoon. Good conversation on India-Italy strategic partnership and the ongoing efforts to further build on them."

In a separate post, Jaishankar also mentioned his meeting with former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, expressing his appreciation for Sunak's consistent support in strengthening India-UK relations. Jaishankar tweeted, “Nice to meet former UK PM @RishiSunak in Delhi today. Appreciate his constant support for strengthening India-UK relations."

Diplomatic relations between India and Italy were established in 1947, and both countries recently celebrated the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic ties in 2023. The two nations share a strong people-to-people connection, which is fueled by a large Indian diaspora in Italy and a longstanding tradition of Indological studies in the country. The bilateral relations have only continued to grow as they work together on various fronts.
