Prajogo Pangestu (born 13 May 1944) is an Indonesian billionaire businessman, investor, and philanthropist. He is the founder of Barito Pacific Group, a leading Indonesian conglomerate involved in industries such as forestry, plantations, oil and gas, coal and gold mining, and renewable energy, particularly geothermal power. Prajogo Pangestu was born on 13 May 1944 in Bengkayang, West Kalimantan, Indonesia, into a Hakka Chinese family originally from Guangdong, China. He received his early education in Chinese-language schools in Indonesia. In 1965, he relocated to Jakarta in pursuit of better opportunities.
His business career began in 1970 when he joined Djajanti Group, a major timber company owned by Burhan Uray. By 1976, Pangestu had become the general manager of PT Nusantara, a subsidiary of the group.
