In a statement on Truth Social, Trump warned that the U.S. would not allow BRICS to develop an alternative currency. He demanded a commitment from the bloc to halt any such efforts, threatening severe consequences, including heavy tariffs and restricted access to the American market.

Trump has already initiated tariffs on Canada and Mexico and signaled that he would extend such measures to BRICS if they challenge the dollar’s dominance in international trade.

 anywhere else," he stated.

His comments come amid growing efforts by BRICS nations to explore alternative currencies for trade, a move Trump has threatened to counter with 100% tariffs on their imports.

Trump's message came with a strong warning: "Any country that tries should say hello to tariffs and goodbye to America!" His tough stance reflects his belief in using aggressive trade policies to protect the U.S. economy.

The BRICS nations, made up of some of the world's biggest emerging economies, have shown interest in reducing their dependence on the U.S. dollar in global trade. This has fueled speculation that they might create a shared currency or use their own national currencies more in trade. Such changes could challenge the dollar's role as the world's top reserve currency.

Trump Revives Tariff Strategy in Threat Against BRICS Nations

In his latest statement, Trump warned that nations moving away from the U.S. dollar would face "100% tariffs" and lose access to the U.S. market. BRICS countries—especially China—are key exporters to the U.S. In 2022 alone, the U.S. imported $536.8 billion worth of goods from China.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed support for "financial integration among BRICS countries", stating that "trade in local currencies and smooth cross-border payments will strengthen economic cooperation." Similarly, in November 2024, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the "importance of settling trade in national currencies," particularly in the current global climate.

India’s stance suggests a cautious approach—aligning with BRICS initiatives while maintaining its key economic ties with the United States.
