Toronto – A Delta Air Lines jet carrying 80 people crash-landed at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday, flipping upside down and injuring at least 18 passengers, officials confirmed.
Endeavor Air Flight 4819, with 76 passengers and four crew members, was arriving from Minneapolis, Minnesota, when the incident occurred. While the cause of the crash remains unknown, the aircraft was found flipped with its wings severely damaged.
"It's very early in the investigation, and it's crucial not to speculate. What we do know is that the runway was dry, and there were no crosswind conditions," said Todd Aitken, the airport's fire chief.
Critical Injuries Reported
Authorities confirmed that 18 people sustained injuries, though no fatalities were reported. Among the critically injured were a child, a man in his 60s, and a woman in her 40s. All injured passengers were transported to hospitals by ambulance or helicopter, according to paramedic services.
Dramatic Rescue Efforts
Footage shared on social media and local broadcasts showed passengers stumbling away from the overturned CRJ-900 aircraft, shielding themselves from strong winds and blowing snow. Fire crews rushed to the scene, spraying water on the plane as smoke drifted from its fuselage, even as passengers were still being evacuated.
Toronto Airport Authority CEO Deborah Flint confirmed that no other aircraft were involved in the incident. She praised emergency crews for their "heroic" response, saying they arrived within minutes and swiftly evacuated passengers.
Some passengers have since reunited with their families. The airport temporarily suspended all flights following the crash but resumed operations at around 5:00 p.m. local time, cautioning travelers to expect delays.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.

Endeavor Air Flight 4819, operated by Delta’s subsidiary, was arriving from Minneapolis when it overturned upon landing. The cause of the crash remains unclear, though investigators are on-site.
Passenger Recounts Terrifying Moments
John Nelson, a passenger on the flight, shared a video from the tarmac, showing the overturned aircraft. "Our plane crashed. It's upside down," he said, adding that most people appeared to be okay as they evacuated.
Delta acknowledged the incident, confirming no fatalities. "The hearts of the entire global Delta family are with those affected," Delta CEO Ed Bastian said in a statement.
Snowstorm and Harsh Weather Conditions
Toronto had been dealing with the aftermath of a major snowstorm that hit eastern Canada on Sunday. Strong winds and frigid temperatures persisted Monday as airlines worked to recover from widespread cancellations. However, officials have not yet linked the crash to weather conditions.
Investigations Underway
Federal Transport Minister Anita Anand confirmed 80 people were on board. Ontario Premier Doug Ford expressed relief that there were no casualties.
Canada’s Transportation Safety Board dispatched investigators to the crash site, joined by a team from the US Federal Aviation Administration.
The incident follows a string of recent North American air disasters, including a mid-air collision in Washington that killed 67 people and a medical transport plane crash in Philadelphia that left seven dead.
